The World Healing Centre (formerly known as the World Healing Crusade) was founded in 1948 by Mandus Nyquist. Brother Mandus, as he became known, had numerous spiritual experiences in early life which led him to begin practicing spiritual healing in the 1940s.

People would come to him for help, healing and prayer and many were instantly healed of physical ailments. As news of this good work spread, people began writing for healing and prayer. The letters came in their hundreds daily and were always answered, with healing experienced by many of those recipients too. This led Brother Mandus to conclude that truth, prayer and healing is just as effective in written form and at distance as it is in person.

Brother Mandus toured both the UK and abroad to lecture and give healing services in crowded halls and churches. He wrote and published numerous books on spirituality together with the creation of a free monthly magazine (then called Crusader) which had an annual subscription in excess of one million copies. Later, with the creation of a recording studio, he began to record and distribute free teachings, lectures and meditations which were requested in their thousands.

Brother Mandus and his teachings are considered part of the New Thought Movement prevalent in the 19th century. Yet despite the name, the principles of New Thought are rooted in ancient teachings, teachings that can be found at the heart of almost all religious and spiritual traditions throughout the world. His work has been referred to as a bridge between New Thought and orthodox churches. The charity was created inter-denominational whose purpose was to advance Christ’s work in churches and organisations already established throughout the world.

By the time of his passing in 1988, Brother Mandus had laid the foundations for the charity. Today we continue to respond to letters and emails requesting help, healing and teaching, week by week. We publish our free magazine, now called Sanctuary, and free online meditations and talks which are readily available online. In 2025, we are also running a programme of in-person classes, talks and retreats.

By doing so, we continue to provide teachings, support and guidance to those who are drawn to it, wherever you are on your spiritual path.
